Owner Virtual Renegades Provo, UT 11/09 – Present
Virtual Renegades is an internet architecture contract consulting firm with an extensive ongoing research experiment in search engine optimization, e-commerce and community building (social media) systems. Utilizing multiple SEO, social and other techniques, the objective of this experiment is to determine what systems and designs would be needed to dominate a niche market. With core research and development completed, it will continue to grow and show results with little further involvement. The company contracts their experts with other firms while maintaining the core experiment.
Technology Director LaneLinks Technology Provo, UT 6/08 – 11/09
LaneLinks Technology built technical solutions for its parent company which did back-haul management for private fleets. Direct responsibilities included architecture design and implementation. Prior to the company having to shut down due to economic reasons we had just completed a large project which created a community based Private Fleet Marketplace. For this project I designed a completely new data access system utilizing XML and built a 4GL programming system. This 4GL system reduced development time of the actual product by over 60%.
Owner PRT Research Mapleton, UT 7/06 – 6/08
PRT Research designed Search Engine Optimization and Analysis technologies. We had three major research and data acquisition engines, a mass anonymous proxy spidering engine capable of turning any webpage into semantic data and an RSS source processing system capable of managing any RSS data source such as the blogosphere. At its peak, PRT employed 13 people doing consulting work and internal project development. I managed all employees and projects and architected our technologies.
Chief Operating Officer Provo Labs Provo, UT 7/05 – 7/06
Provo Labs was an experimental web incubator started by Paul Allen. I was brought in prior to formation of the company to help organize and build the company and to oversee project development. While there, I oversaw the creation and organization of 7 experimental companies. I was also the Chief Architect and oversaw the design of several web projects focusing on Search Engine Optimization, framework based development and e-commerce solutions.
Project Manager Sentry Financial Salt Lake City, UT 10/02 – 7/05
Managed the building of an N-Tier Lease Management CRM written entirely in VB.Net. Responsibilities included Project Management, Leading the Design (both software and database) Team, and Leading the Architecting Team. TeamWork is a complete replacement system for 3 commercial software packages intended to manage all aspects of Sentry’s business (Accounting, Payroll and Leasing).

CSS is responsible for the schedule management of all General Authorities. My responsibilities included designing and writing a multi-tier architecture abstracting all business and data access from the front-end and some development of front-end web pages.
Aug 0 1- Mar 02 Publications Information Network (PIN), Lead Engineer
PIN was designed to replace several mainframe and legacy applications for the LDS Church’s Curriculum Department. I was brought in to ensure the project, which was 2 years behind schedule, would be releasable within the following six months. My responsibilities included re-designing and re-writing the data access and business layers and designing and writing a GUI Management interface to manage all data binding and appearance tasks for all forms in PIN.
Sr. Software Engineer Avysta Software Salt Lake, UT 2/00 – 6/01
Senior Architect in the development of Visual Front Office (VFO), a Customer Resource Management (CRM) application. VFO is a multi-tier application designed to work with Oracle, SQL Server, and SQLBase databases in an MTS and Citrix environment. My team succeeded in meeting several extremely aggressive deadlines to get the product to market.

The Gatherers was a consulting company focusing on advanced applications development and dynamic business solutions including shipment building RF systems, traveling salesman inventory systems, Medical Records management, and several office management applications. Well-known customers have included Corning Glass, General Marble, Hamilton Beach, Warner Lambert, Fuji Film and the SC Dept Mental Health.
Systems Developer Aspen Distribution Salt Lake, UT 3/97 – 8/99
Projects focused on augmentation of the warehouse management system, generally in EDI and shipping applications. Major accomplishments included: Development of an automated EDI generation system that converted non-EDI files into full EDI transactions delivered via Internet mail. Customer Service calls/issues management and tracking system. HR management and several other small scale projects.
Information Manager US Air Force Hill AFB, UT 1/92 – 4/96
Primary duties included supporting all squadron computer systems and providing data management for the squadron. Completely automated a previously manual office with VB 4\5, developing databases, spreadsheets and forms for all functions of the Information Management Offices. Several of these solutions were adopted Air Force wide. Received high recognitions within the Air Force and received an Honorable Discharge.
