The Gravel Pit
I suppose every farm's got one, and as they go ours wasn't too bad - but our biggest problem with our property is that apparently when they were building the neighborhood lots of cement trucks used our backyard as a good washout place. What I originally thought was a pile of small gravel turned into a much bigger headache. The first time we tried to move all the rocks out of the way things went fine, for a bit. After a while we noticed that it wasn't possible to dig out all the gravel, that there was a solid layer under it. Some exploratory digging led us to realize that there was about 4-5 inches of concrete underneath it all. So over the last week I attacked it with the skidsteer - and finally won.

This is about half way through digging it out, notice the chunks of concrete on the right side. I had to get the blade of the bucket under the corner of the concrete and pry it up until it popped a piece out. Some of the pieces were as big as a dinner table.

This is the back of the pile of concrete that I hauled out of the pit.

Here's the front side, the piece that is on top on the left is about 12 feet long.

There's still a bit of gravel on the dirt, but all the concrete is finally out and that patch of my land has now been recovered!
